Tornado, storm and flash flood alerts for the people you love.
Wireless Emergency Alerts are broadcast from cell towers to phones in the warned area. If a tornado warning covers your mother’s house two states away, your phone stays quiet. Kinwarn watches the exact addresses of your family and tells you.
Checked against the exact address
You get an alert when a warning’s outline covers the home itself, not just somewhere in its county.
Mom doesn’t need an app
With Kinwarn Pro, Kinwarn calls her when a tornado warning covers her home, even on a landline. She presses 1, and you see that she got it.
Two places are free
Alerts for your home and one more place are free. Kinwarn Pro watches up to 10 places.
What the colors on the map mean
- Red, take shelter: tornado warnings, plus severe thunderstorm warnings tagged destructive, flash flood emergencies and extreme wind warnings.
- Amber, warning: other severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings.
- Dashed outline, watch: tornado and severe thunderstorm watches. Storms have not formed yet, but conditions are right.
- Dots, storm reports: tornadoes, hail and damaging wind reported to the National Weather Service in the last 24 hours. Tap a dot to read the report.
Tap a warning on the map to jump to its details. Each warning has the full text from the National Weather Service, including what it says to do.
A tornado warning covers your home. What now?
Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows. If you are in a mobile home, a vehicle or outdoors, go to the nearest sturdy shelter and protect yourself from flying debris. Read more in where to shelter during a tornado and tornado watch vs. warning.
Get alerts for Mom’s house, not just yours.
Kinwarn for iPhone watches the exact addresses of the people you love and alerts you when a National Weather Service warning covers them. Alerts for 2 places are free. With Kinwarn Pro, Kinwarn also calls family for the most dangerous warnings.
Coming soon to the App Store · iPhoneKinwarn adds to official alerts. Keep Wireless Emergency Alerts on.
Questions people ask
How often does this tornado map update?
While the page is open, Kinwarn checks the National Weather Service every minute. The time of the last check is shown above the map. If Kinwarn cannot reach the National Weather Service for more than 10 minutes, the map says so instead of showing an old list.
What is the difference between a tornado watch and a tornado warning?
A tornado watch means tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area, so be ready to act. A tornado warning means a tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar, so take shelter now.
Why are some severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings red?
Red means take shelter. Besides tornado warnings, Kinwarn shows a severe thunderstorm warning in red when the National Weather Service tags it as destructive, and a flash flood warning in red when it is a flash flood emergency.
Is this an official warning?
No. The warnings come from the National Weather Service, but Kinwarn is not an official warning service and the map can be delayed. Keep Wireless Emergency Alerts on, and follow instructions from local officials.
Can I see if a warning covers my parents’ house?
Yes. Pin up to 5 homes next to the map and Kinwarn checks each one with the National Weather Service while the page is open. The pins are saved only in your browser. To be alerted when you are not looking, use Kinwarn for iPhone: 2 places are free, 10 with Pro, and Pro can call family.
